Studio GA and Workstudy Jobs

Five graduate Teaching Assistantships are available to graduate-level ESP and composition students. The assistantships require working in and maintaining the studios, teaching studio workshops, assisting faculty with classes and projects and possibly teaching the occasional class. Each position pays $12 an hour with a maximum amount of hours per week and semester. TA's are assigned a studio to manage under my guidance and keep office hours each week to work with other studio users. You do not need to have workstudy eligibility from the financial aid office to be hired as a Teaching Assistant. We need TAs with the following skills and experience:

WaveCave Gallery – installation setup / artist management / gallery blog

Computer Music Studio – synthesis / audio recording / software synths / computer music

Electronics & Soldering Studio – electronics / soldering / organization

Modular Synth Studio – analog synths / recording / max-msp-jitter / video editing

Digital Recording Studio – recording studio skills / protools / microphone applications

 

MUSIC STUDIOS WORKSTUDY POSITIONS

You need to check with the CalArts financial aid office to make sure you qualify for workstudy funds before you can be hired. Music studios workstudy positions are available to undergraduate and graduate students.

MU07 - Digital Media Web Programmer

2 Hours per week - $12.00 an hour - $350 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Format and upload ROD concert recordings for a web based digital archive. HTML and basic web experience required. Experience with online digital audio formats, content management systems, and databases a plus.

MU10 - Electronics Lab Studio Assistant

3 Hours per week - $8.50 an hour - $350 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Maintain the studio premises (B303). You must know how to solder and a basic understanding of electronics is required. You will assist students working in the electronics lab and provide class support for supervising faculty.

MU12 - Computer / Multimedia Studio Assistant

3 Hours per week - $8.50 an hour - $350 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Maintain the studio premises (B305). Give seminars on the studio equipment and software. Knowledge of analog synthesizers and audio software required. You will assist students working in the studio and provide class support for supervising faculty.

MU26 - ROD Concert Archivist

2 Hours per week - $8.50 an hour - $250 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Encode concert recordings into web-ready formats. Update and maintain a database of ROD concerts. Experience with web audio formats is required and experience with QuickTime and iTunes based encoding a plus.

MU27 - Score Making Lab Assistant

2 Hours per week - $8.50 an hour - $250 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Maintain the studio premises (B206). Knowledge of Finale and Sibelius is required. You will assist students working in the studio and provide class support for supervising faculty.

MU34 - Recording Studio Assistant  (2 positions available)

2 Hours per week - $11.00 an hour - $350 maximum per semester

Supervisor – Clay Chaplin

Maintain the studio premises (B307. B308); give seminars on studio equipment as needed, assist students working in the studio and provide class support for supervising faculty. Knowledge of microphones, digital audio and ProTools is required.
